OLYMPIA, Washington. – 15 health insurers submitted an average proposed rate increase of 5.47% for the Washington individual health insurance market. The plans and proposed rates are currently being reviewed and the final decisions will be taken this fall.

“Access to meaningful and affordable health insurance has always been vital to our lives and our economy, but not more than this year,” said Insurance Commissioner Mike Kreidler. “I am incredibly proud of the efforts our state has made to help people find coverage by contacting them and opening special enrollment deadlines. We have put in place regulatory measures when necessary to ensure people do not receive financial support Had obstacles to COVID-19 testing and not received them. ” Surprise bills for these tests and increased coverage for additional telehealth methods. I am also grateful to health insurers for their dedication to their customers and our markets. For now, we’re returning to our regular work of carefully reviewing the plans and their prices to see what is warranted. “

Individuals who do not receive health insurance coverage from their employer for insurance in the individual market. Premium subsidies are available based on earnings through Washington’s Exchange, www.wahealthplanfinder.org. The exchange has opened a special registry for public health emergencies that runs through August 15.
